Aperi<\/strong> is a beautiful mountainous village that stands out for its noble glamor. It was the capital of the island from 1700 to 1892.<\/p>\n

When the dangers of the sea ceased to exist the capital was moved from the invisible Aperi to Pigadia<\/strong> near the sea.<\/p>\n

But the nobility remained … along with the seat of the Metropolitan Bishop of Karpathos and Kasos, the smaller ecclesiastical metropolis of Greece.<\/p>\n

It is 8 km northwest of the city of Karpathos.<\/p>\n

It is worth a walk in Aperi to admire its beauties. Walk through the streets of the village, in the green alleyways of Valandous<\/strong>, admire the imposing mansions in Pano Aperi<\/strong>, the churches of Agios Vassilios<\/strong>, Agios Charalambos<\/strong> and Loron<\/strong> and the vast green areas in Kato Aperi<\/strong> that surround the village.<\/p>\n

Although most of the village’s inhabitants are immigrants, particularly in the United States, the houses, most of them impressive, are being renovated according to the tradition.<\/p>\n

There is no trace of abandonment. On the contrary, an idyllic image is spread in the shadow of the hills.<\/p>\n

Following the paths of the village, you will reach the beautiful beaches of Achatas<\/strong> and the famous church Kira Panagia<\/strong>. Kira Panagia is one of the most famous churches of the island and the scenery is one of the most photographed landscapes of Karpathos.<\/p>\n

Swim in their clear waters and relax in the endless sandy beach, enjoying the sun and the wonderful nature.<\/p>\n

On the road to Kira Panagia, take a stop in the green settlements of Mertona<\/strong> and Kathodi<\/strong>, northbound or southbound respectively, and taste the cool water that flows from the springs.<\/p>\n

At Aperi rooms are rented. Most of these will be found in the seaside village settlement of Kira Panagia.<\/p>\n
