Karpathos is among the best islands in Greece where one can enjoy unique Greek cuisine, fresh fish and authentic local recipes.
There are many family taverns on the island that serve delicious Greek dishes prepared with fresh fish, directly from the fishpond and pure vegetables from the garden.
The food is always thoughtful and of excellent quality, the portions generous, the recipes are transmitted from mother to daughter and all these are offered at very good prices.
Thus, lachanodolmas, stuffed kolokythanthi (courgettes), papoutsakia (boots), goat in tomato sauce, psari plakki (a Greek-style fish baked in the oven with tomatoes, onions, and olive oil.), Karpathian shrimp and, of course, seafood macarounes, are some of the traditional dishes that a traveler can taste.
Of course, there are also the most “advanced” shops, with traditional recipes adapted to more European tastes.
Finally, a variety of handmade, freshly baked bread is served everywhere in the island’s wood-fired ovens.
