Wild Nature of Karpathos maintains an endless wealth of dozens of endemic species of fauna and flora of our country in the cliffs, forests, slopes, beaches and small plains.
It is said that the island took its name from the unknown, today, “karpaso” plant.
Both the geographical location of Karpathos and the sustainable lifestyle of the inhabitants have so far rescued a huge number of wild animals and plants, which are characterized by a great degree of endemism.
The areas “Central Karpathos: Kali Limni-Lastos-Kira Panagia” and “North Karpathos and Saria” have been included in the European Ecological Network NATURA 2000 with codes GR4210002 and GR4210003 respectively and have been recognized by the scientific community as CORINE biotopes, among the 39 biotopes of South Aegean Region. It is an area of 154 square kilometers and covers both sea and land areas.
