The most effective way to get to know the area and the beauties of Karpathos is by hiking. Karpathos has a well-developed network of hiking routes (trails), through which one can get to know all the attractions of the area. Of these, about 60 paths are mapped and electronically, for anyone who wants to be thoroughly informed.
With more than a hundred rare and endemic plant species, Karpathos is a unique destination for nature lovers, for “hunters” of rare and endemic flowers, but also for those who want to try, observe and photograph something fresh and different.
Karpathos is ideal for bird tourism, as it is the last destination of migratory birds before they fly to Africa. It is a real “supply oasis” for passing migratory birds during their journey between Europe and Africa. It is an excellent place for bird watching and has those features that can make it an important birding destination.
Visitors to the island can rent bicycles and, through safe routes, discover the unique landscapes of Karpathos, full of olive trees, pine trees and the sea. With every turn they take on the island, they will see a new amazing view, while its dirt roads can satisfy all lovers of cross-country cycling.
The island has about 100 climbing routes and the goal is to exceed 400 within the next two years. The most important climbing areas are located in the areas of Kyra Panagia, Apella and Adea.
